What to consider when choosing a cleaing service
So, you have a property in a great location and with all the amenities your target audience want. Listing it with Airbnb, VRBO, Booking.com, or any number of alternatives will set you on the path to successfully letting out your property for short stay clients.
Keeping the property immaculately clean after each use is essential, especially if you want those five-star reviews to continue rolling in. When choosing a cleaning service there are a few things to consider because there are some differences when it comes to cleaning a short let vacation rental (Airbnb, VRBO etc) and a regular clean at a residential property.
All surfaces need to be dusted on every single clean including bookshelves, light fixtures, ceiling fans and the slightly hidden areas like behind the curtains, behind and under radiators, slatted blinds and even under sofas.
An Airbnb could potentially have seven different customers in a week and each one could have different levels of cleanliness, to put it politely. High touch areas such as switches, door handles, remote controls as well the kitchen, bathroom and toilet areas will need to be sanitised to eliminate the possibility of cross contamination between guests. Cleaning and sanitising the kitchen will include emptying and sanitising the fridge/freezer, grill and oven and all the dishes a host may provide as well as the dishwasher.
All furniture can be wiped down or vacuumed and potentially will have to be moved if a vacuum head cannot fit under it to get to the dust – and unwanted sweets and toys left behind by guest’s children, to ensure the next guest has an immaculate accommodation. Spills and stains from coffee, fruit juices or wines will require extra care and attention (and time) to be removed properly.
If done properly mopping a floor will not only clean and sanitise a floor (no sicky feeling under your shoes) but make it look great. Anything left behind is very noticeable, so doing this properly will enhance the perception in your guests’ eyes.
Bathrooms and kitchens
For a short-let property kitchens and bathrooms require extra care and attention in order to provide a highly satisfying environment for guests vacationing at your property. Every guest will expect and immaculately prepared kitchen which will put them at ease with the environment, and a bathroom where they can relax and feel it is better than the one at their own home.
Laundry services for bedding and towels
Not something most residential clients require, but a necessity for most Airbnb hosts as they may not be close to the property to do this themselves. Best practice is to have one set in a locked cupboard whilst one is in use and the third being laundered.
Restocking of consumables
Toilet rolls, hand soaps, washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets, toiletries, linens, towels, coffee, tea, – and anything else you wish to provide will need to be restocked ready for the next guest. If you provide welcome packs for guests, then this is another thing counting in your favour.
